On April 16, 1856, a new church was instituted and organized in the city of Philadelphia by a deputation from the Third Presbytery. The church consisted of 16 members and met in a new church building on the corner of 22nd and Wallace Streets. The church building was built through the generosity of benefactors that included Mathias Baldwin ( of Baldwin Locomotive fame). The lot had been part of the country estate of Robert Morris, a father of the American Revolution. The name given to that church was "Olivet."
